Jacob Jolliff is the in-demand mandolin player of his generation — and an LOH favorite. He dazzled audiences on our main stage and at River Park as part of the LOH on Location Hootenanny. Now, Jolliff brings his bluegrass rhythms to this family-friendly party honoring LOH’s 100th Birthday.
In 2007, the Oregon-born Jolliff was awarded a full scholarship to The Berklee College of Music in Boston and quickly joined New England roots rockers Joy Kills Sorrow. After honing his craft at hundreds of JKS shows, he won the National Mandolin Championship in 2012. Two years later, JKS went on an indefinite hiatus.
Fortuitously, as this chapter of Jolliff’s musical journey ended, another important one began. Shortly after his last JKS show, he received a call to join Yonder Mountain String Band (the progressive bluegrass jam group) as a full-time member.
In 2022, world famous banjo player Béla Fleck invited him to tour as part of the My Bluegrass Heart project. Gigs with Béla aside, the young mandolinist’s primary focus is The Jacob Jolliff Band. This group of virtuosic pickers plays Jacob’s original instrumentals and, on occasion, tunes that showcase his vocals and the ensemble’s soaring harmonies.
