After a year of work and collaboration with the Special Needs Support Center, Lebanon Opera House is excited to announce that we’ve developed our first social story, sensory tool kits, and non-verbal communication card set. The social story lives in the Visit section of our website and is available for direct download. The non-verbal communication cards will be available as part of our sensory tool kits.
What is a social story?
A social story is a tool that helps people understand social situations and how to respond appropriately. These stories prepare someone for what they might see, feel, experience, hear, and more during their visit to Lebanon Opera House.
What is a sensory tool kit?
A sensory tool kit is a collection of items that help calm or stimulate a persons sensory system. Our tool kits are designed specifically for our events and include the following:
- Noise Canceling Headphones
- Sunglasses
- Non-verbal Communication Cards
- Silent Fidget Toys
What are nonverbal communication cards?
Nonverbal communication cards are visual aids typically featuring pictures or symbols designed to help individuals who struggle with verbal communication express their needs, feelings, and thoughts.
