Often considered the greatest Hollywood musical ever made, Singin’ offers a lighthearted depiction of Tinsel Town in the late 1920s, with the film’s stars (including Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Rita Moreno, and Jean Hagen) portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to “talkies”.
The Oscar-nominated film has three songs on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest movie music – including Singin’ in the Rain, Make ‘Em Laugh, and Good Morning – with call-backs in recent films such as La La Land, Brooklyn, and Silver Linings Playbook.
