One of the highlights of LOH’s 2021 Nexus Music and Arts Festival, Red Baraat returns with their acclaimed Festival of Colors. FOC is the band’s annual celebration of Holi, the Hindu holiday which signifies the triumph of good over evil and the return of spring — see sidebar.
Each year, this pioneering band from Brooklyn brings their high-energy festival to more that a dozen cities across the US. Performances are curated by bandleader and dhol player Sunny Jain to include the sounds of the South Asian diaspora mixed with kaleidoscopic visual imagery.
At the core of Festival of Colors is Red Baraat’s singular sound: a merging of hard-driving North Indian bhangra music with elements of hip hop, jazz, and raw punk energy. Created with no less a purposeful agenda than manifesting joy and unity in all people, the band’s spirit is worn brightly on its sweaty and hard-worked sleeve.
Says Jain: “If we can unite people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to partake in the exuberance of life through the universal language of music, then life is that much sweeter.”
General admission seating with an open dance space at the front of the orchestra level.
