Singer/guitarist Eric Johanson closes out the first day of Nexus with his soulful blues-based alternative roots rock.
Following years as an in-demand touring guitarist (he’s shared stages with everyone from Anders Osborne and JJ Grey to the Neville Brothers) Johanson was discovered by fellow Louisiana blues-rocker Tab Benoit who produced his 2017 debut solo album, Burn It Down.
Johanson spent the next two years on Benoit’s tour bus opening most of his shows and soon crossed paths with Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars. The pair teamed up to record Johanson’s next record at Dickinson’s studio and the result was the 2020 release Below Sea Level which features 12 original songs penned by Johanson.
“With this album I was finally able to bring my blues and rock influences to a place of more imagination and creativity, while keeping it organic and honest,” Johanson said. “It’s contemporary music naturally grown from the roots of southern blues and psychedelic inspiration.”
