On Wednesday, March 13, Lebanon Opera House (LOH) and Special Needs Support Center (SNSC) joined in the lobby of 51 North Park Street as part of a pledge-signing ceremony recognizing LOH as a certified Disability-Friendly business. This date marked the culmination of months of dedicated work including creating sensory-friendly performance toolkits, a social story, and venue-personalized non-verbal communication cards.
With this certification — awarded through SNSC’s Enabled Upper Valley program — LOH made history as the first business in the United States to earn this designation, reaffirming their commitment to fostering belonging and inclusion by making the arts accessible to everyone. This milestone event was celebrated by community members, staff, board members of SNSC and LOH, and individuals with disabilities.
The Enabled Upper Valley program helps businesses enhance their accessibility efforts through physical accommodations, staff training, and inclusive customer service practices. This program goes beyond compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recognizing businesses that actively cultivate a culture of inclusion and accessibility. SNSC encourages other businesses and organizations locally and nationwide to follow LOH’s lead in becoming Disability-Friendly Certified.
