Born in the countryside near Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Joan Soriano fashioned his first guitar from fishing line and a discarded metal box. Today, he is a renowned master of bachata—the African- and Spanish-based soul music known as Dominican Blues.

At LOH, Joan Soriano leads his band in a joyful evening of lovesick ballads and tropical dance tunes.

“When you hear Soriano’s raw interpretation of bachata,” raved NPR, “you can’t help but wonder how such a beautiful sound was kept quiet for so long.”
